I love the thought process here! That's the thinking every company should have.
However, I am curious about how to quantify the impact of an individual. For example, some great engineers are featured machines and great engineers who understand the customer's pains; some are good at fast delivery and get out a working solution insanely fast; and some are good at clean code principles and take long-term impact into consideration; and some are extreamle good at diving to the codebase and debugging.
I am curious because the engineer in the company should understand the business goals and align their strategy accordingly or should stick to what they are good at and do even more of it to scale up their career.
